In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-office teeth whitening is the most effective way to get a brighter, whiter smile. It typically takes one appointment of about an hour at your dentist’s office and in some cases can include multiple treatments. Professional teeth whitening in San Antonio includes a bleaching gel that contains a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide, which breaks down oxygen atoms. These oxygen atoms penetrate the enamel and break down the stains that have built up over time. These treatments often use special light activation technology that helps to speed up the whitening process. The results are usually noticeable immediately after treatment.

In just one appointment, our cosmetic dentists are able to dramatically whiten your teeth using Pola Office+.

Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

The most common side effect of teeth whitening is temporary tooth sensitivity, which is usually mild and subsides once treatment has ended. Other potential risks include gum irritation, mouth soreness, and chemical burns to the gums or lips. If done incorrectly, teeth whitening can also cause uneven bleaching or discoloration of the teeth. It is important to discuss any potential risks with your dentist before undergoing treatment.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

The length of time your teeth whitening lasts depends on several factors, including the type of whitening treatment used, how well you take care of your teeth afterward, and lifestyle habits such as smoking or drinking coffee/tea/red wine. Results can usually last anywhere from about 6 months to 2 years before needing to be repeated. Professional in-office teeth whitening treatments may last up to three years if you maintain good oral hygiene and avoid habits that stain the teeth. At-home whitening products can also be used to touch up your results between professional treatments. It’s important to note that any type of teeth whitening will only work on natural teeth; it will have no effect on restorations such as fillings, crowns or veneers.

Does Insurance Cover Teeth Whitening?

Most dental insurance policies do not cover the cost of teeth whitening treatments, as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. However, some employers may offer dental benefits that include coverage for teeth whitening. Be sure to check with your insurance provider or employer to see if you have any coverage available. Without insurance coverage, professional teeth whitening can run anywhere from $300 to $1000 depending on where you get it done.
